Patrick McCarthy has been training and teaching martial arts for over 40 years. In this time, Patrick has distinguished himself as a martial arts competitor by winning numerous Karate, Kung-Fu and Tae Kwon Do Championships and also becoming the Canadian National Champion not once but five times.

Along with holding a 8th Dan (Hanshi) in
Koryu Uchinadi, Hanshi Patrick McCarthy has also obtained the rank of Yudansha in Japanese swordmanship (Katori Shintoryu), Jujutsu (Komaruryu) and has also studied Taijiquan, White Crane, Hung Gar, Monk Fist and Five Ancestors Fist Gongfu.
Hanshi Patrick McCarthy was the first caucasian to be awarded the coverted Kyoshi 8th Dan Teachers licence from Kyoto’s prestigious Dai Nippon Butokaki. Patrick McCarthy joins many other prominent Hanshi‘s which have obtained their Teachers licence from the Butokaki, such as, Funakoshi Gichin (the founder of Shotokan), Miyagi Chojun (the founder of Gojuryu) are just to name a few.
Hanshi Patrick McCarthy is recognised throughout the world as a leading authority on the civil fighting arts of Okinawa. The obtainment of this knowledge has led Hanshi Patrick McCarthy to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Peoples republic of China.
After ten years of diligent research in Japan, Patrick McCarthy Hanshi is one of the very few foreigners to completely master the art of Karatedo. Moreover, the ground breaking research of this remarkable man has made him a trailblazer in the annals of modern Karatedo.
